The house was built around the 1860’s as part of the estate of Middleton
Hall and was said to have been used as a hunting lodge.
It was lived in for over 90 years by Captain Humphrey
Simpson and retains many of its original features. Porticoed
entrance with tiled hallway, wide Georgian style doors
leading to spacious lounge and dining rooms, both with open
fires and bay windows in which to sit and contemplate the

| The
3 en-suite bedrooms, are again spacious, with original fireplaces,
sash windows and all the accommodation is on ground level. They
are decorated in individual period styles but with all the mod cons
of en-suites, some with bath with shower over, tea and coffee making
facilities, televisions, hairdryers, a selection of organic, eco-
friendly, natural toiletries and of course central heating - something
not around when the house was built!. |

Take
time out from sight seeing, sit for a while and just enjoy our garden,
about 1 acre of lawns and terraces and another of woodland, with
views over the surrounding Northumberland countryside. If you come
in the right season, help yourself to an apple, pear or plum to
munch on. We are also in an ideal position for many local walks,
from easy, circular strolls, to the more strenuous assaults on the
Cheviots - many of which can be started and finished at Firwood.
And don’t forget, if you do fall in a stream and get wet
while out walking, let us dry off your boots and clothes
ready for your next trip. |
